The Washington Center

The Washington Center was founded on the belief that the right experience can transform students’ lives – setting them on a course of achievement, leadership, and civic responsibility. That is why they immerse qualified college students and professionals in their uniquely intense and productive living, working, and learning program.

The goal of The Washington Center is to help you grow and succeed professionally, intellectually and personally. All of the programs are built around three fundamental pillars: Academic and Professional Achievement, Leadership and Civic Engagement. The various components of The Washington Center experience are designed to promote these central goals as defined within each of these pillars.

As a result of your learning experiences at The Washington Center, you will:

Demonstrate academic and professional achievement;

By attending a weekly course in your personal area of interest and doing an internship at the Capitol of the United States.

Develop an increased capacity for civic engagement;

By creating your own community project or by participating in one of the TWC projects, you learn to contribute something to the community. Cooking for the homelessness, advocating against domestic violence, participating in the ‘AIDS walk’: all unique experiences that enable students to make a true difference in life by helping others.

Have an enhanced understanding of community and  organizational leadership;

TWC organizes lecturers with prominent leadership figures in the field; known as the Alan K. Simpson-Norman J. Mineta Leaders series. Unique lectures where ambassadors, political campaign leaders and speechwriters come to share their vision on leadership.

At the end of the TWC experience, you will be well positioned to launch a career in the dynamic and highly competitive global economy and to forge a path of engagement and leadership in a complex and globally interconnected world.
